Fly Away Airlines

Project Overview-
Fly Away Airlines, has a global presence, and seeks a custom upholstery design that evokes a sense of wonder and adventure, encouraging air travel. Past company goals have included a reference to the beauty of the natural world. The proposed design will be used in airport seating in varied global locations and should appeal to a wide variety of diverse travelers. The gate seating selected is MPO1 by Marcus Pedersen.
My first initial idea was to have dashed lines to resemble the path that an airplane took. Then taking that idea and reworking it with curvilinear lines. I came to the final design of leaves to appeal to the natural side of life. Leaves are a more generic item that many people have seen and can connect with.
The design of the leaves is organic and imperfect. It isn’t very busy yet it still clearly has texture. I chose different variations of green simply because leaves for the most part are green and not one solid color. In addition, green is a cool natural hue that gives a sense of calmness. I decided to take my markers and draw vertically to evoke a sense of strength and sturdiness. The design incorporates unity in the way that the leaves coincide each other and using a general green hue. Through using this textile in airports I hope to evoke a sense of calmness in patrons.
