Project Overview-
The task is to explore the simple geometric shape of the triangle. Then manipulate it into a three-dimensional form. The constraints of the project are to only use triangles. They can be equilateral, isosceles, scalene, or right triangles and they must all be the same size. There are no constraints on what to model.
The two principles of design I incorporated into my composition are rhythm and balance through the use of a right triangle. There is a strong radial rhythm in the three fish starting in the center with the triangles creating the representational form of a fish. Another principle shown in this composition is balance. This is apparent in the constant balance of black and white in the fish and seaweed. The constant contrast of black and white keeps a break in the design yet brings it together.
Fish, thinking of the scales as triangles.
Mix of a puffer fish form with a normal fish fin positioning.
Final Design
Final form intertwined between seaweed to support the fish. Reminiscent of M.C. Esher’s work with tessellations.
