Food for Thought Cafe

Project Overview-

The Albertson Hall Food for Thought Cafe located on the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point campus is in need of updating. The space is located in Albertson Hall library. The space is used by students for studying, meetings, or grabbing a quick bite to eat or a snack.

The space is lacking an efficient work/ service counter for cafe staff and ample options of seating for students. Additionally, the space is uninviting with no interest or design that makes the space comfortable for students to study.

The solution to the design starts when you walk in a see the variety of seating and table heights. A mixture of dining height and bar height seating with 2 tops and 4 tops allow a variety of users to be use the space comfortably. The service counter and work space has not increased in size but became more efficient by using the vertical height for storage and display. A designated order and pick up area reduces confusion for patrons while also being accessible to users in wheelchairs. The remainder of the space showcases hanging chairs for a touch of whimsy, large sectional sofas for large groups, bar height work counter for heads down work, floor seating for full relaxation, and booths for collaborative work. The use of warm wood tones, vibrant textiles and various textures on the floor and walls creates a inviting and intriguing experience.
